I am thankful for the opportunity to work with the team of professionals at the Chickadee maternity Collaborative clinic. I’ve enjoyed working with the lovely people at the Dawson Creek health unit since May. When I’m not working I spend as much time as possible with my two wonderful children. I think that this new clinic is going to be a blessing to our community

I am excited to be one of the two primary care nurses that will be joining the Chickadee Maternity Collaborative clinic in December. My husband and I along with our 3 kids live outside of town on a grain farm. For the past 8 years I have enjoyed working on the maternity unit at the Dawson Creek and District Hospital. I am honoured to take on this new role and look forward to supporting women and their families during this life changing experience.

I am very fortunate to be one of two primary care nurses joining the chickadee maternity collaborative clinic starting in December.  I have had the pleasure of working on the Maternity ward in the Dawson Creek and District Hospital since 2007.  I am keen to bring nursing care to the beginning of your pregnancy journey and to be a bridge to our labour, delivery, and postpartum team.  I believe in team work and collaboration to create the best experience for you and your family.

MB ChB, DFM, CCFP.

Primary and advanced obstetrics, operative delivery.

I joined the Mile Zero clinic in 2017. Born and raised in South Africa, we relocated to Canada in 2010.

When I was in the 9th grade I first fell in love with medicine, especially maternal fetal medicine. I realized early on in my education and career that I had a passion for Women’s Health, Obstetrics and newborn care. There is a very special feeling that comes with the care of a patient during the journey of pregnancy, delivery and the first moments of celebration of a new life.

During my down time, I cherish spending it with my husband and two beautiful children. We love playing UNO, running around outside with our dogs, quadding, spending time with friends or just relaxing while we watch a movie.

We are very excited that our vision for Chickadee are coming to life. Thank you to everyone involved and I look forward to the journey we are about to embark on!

MBBCH CCFP OS.

Born and raised in Uganda. College, University Medical degree and training in South Africa. Moved to Alberta in 2010. Worked in Falher as a family physician covering emergency in Sacred heart hospital in Mclennan. In 2017 I pursued a 1year residency training through the University of Alberta in Fort McMurray. The focus of the program was in enhanced surgical skills and obstetrics. On completion I moved to High Prairie to help set up and run their surgical and obstetrics program.

I prefer to consider myself passionate about everything family medicine related. A day that involves discharging a new born baby to her mother and discharging a 102 year old to her daughter, fascinates me and I love it. My new interest is in aviation and flying. I spend my time off reading and practicing how to fly. I want to believe that our futures are not confined to just planet earth. So, yes I am a dreamer and hope Dawson creek will indulge me for many years.

I am an old veteran from South Africa: born in Stellenbosch, went to school in Vredenburg and back to Stellenbosch to study medicine. Was in family practice for about 30 yrs in Malmesbury. Other interests being hiking, biking and art. Developed a liking for obstetrics and deliveries and all the joy it brought. At a late stage of my life came to Canada which has been a great experience. At first was posted in small town Northern Saskatchewan where there were no delivery facilities but was delighted to continue with obstetrics in Dawson Creek. Looking forward to the new ventures.

As a born-and-raised Calgarian, she graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Mount Royal University in 2010. Most of Christy’s nursing career was in Calgary in Critical Care/Coronary Care, as well as Cardiac Diagnostics. Since graduating in June 2019 as a Nurse Practitioner, she has been working at MileZero clinic. Here she has worked alongside Dr Du Plessis and has learned a lot about pre and post partum care. As the PCN NP Christy will help with postpartum care and help out in clinic as needed.

She also shares a love for animals, and has a 150lb Newfoundland mix and a St. Bernard/Border collie mix along with 3 cats! Christy loves the outdoors, traveling, photography, sports (yes, she’s a Flames fan!), and an occasional glass of wine.
